Educational policy: methodology

Teaching in the younger children’s classes is based on the Montessori system and meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This stresses individual progress within the framework of the classroom but systems and apparatus developed by other educational methods are also provided to aid the child's natural progress.

The equipment at Orchard House is the result of many years' experienced observation of children and has been carefully designed to meet their needs.

The syllabus fully takes into consideration the National Curriculum and requirements for future schools. All children receive a thorough grounding in mathematics and English, and the curriculum also includes science, history, geography, and Religious Education and Personal Social Health Education.

Educational radio, television programmes and computer based programs are used in the lessons to which they are relevant. Children are regularly assessed using standard and non-standard tests. Children in Form 2 and Upper VI sit the national assessments known as SATs.
