FORM 4 Dali / Duchamp at the Royal Academy of Arts

In art and French lessons recently the children in Form 4 have been learning about the life and works of Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dali, in preparation for this week’s visit to the Dali/Duchamp exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. The children enjoyed looking at the works on display, particularly Duchamp’s famous ‘readymades’ (readymade is a term first used by the French artist Marcel Duchamp to describe works of art he made from manufactured objects). They were given art detective cards which helped them to discover interesting facts about the paintings and sculptures on display.

SPORT Fundraising netball tournament

Last Saturday a group of girls from Years 4 and 5 took part in a netball tournament to raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster. Well done to the girls who make up the ‘Orchard Firecrackers’ team. They played really well, showing some excellent teamwork and, having made the final after six superb qualifier matches, finished as the runners up. It was a busy afternoon of netball matches!

Reminder – No Nuts please

Please may we remind parents that due to the number of children with severe nut allergies there is a strict ‘no nuts’ policy in operation in the school. Please do not give your child any food products containing nuts, including all snacks and birthday cakes.

Please refer to the parent handbook for more details on this and many other aspects of school life.
