Form 5 were taken back in time to experience learning in the Victorian era. In their classroom they were seated in rows facing the front, with the boys and girls sitting separately and in silence at all times. Their teacher, Mrs Trowbridge had to be addressed as mam.

They tried out different types of learning apparatus including an abacus for counting, and a slate and chalk for writing. They used a copy book to practise their handwriting and any left handed children were not allowed to use their left hands!

Some children even ‘experienced’ Victorian style classroom punishments and were very relieved that finger clamps, the cane, a dunces hat and a back board for slouching are methods no longer used!
